St Mary Station
|
Port St Mary Railway Station was rebuilt in Victorian red and buff brick with Sandstone bands in 1898. For a branch station it remains the largest and most important of all of the former Isle of Man Railway and Manx Northern Railway station buildings.
Its imposing stature is only second to Douglas and is larger than Port Erin Station. Its size reflected the growing popularity of Port St Mary and its importance to the IOMR of the 1,000s who used the station in the heavy holiday season.
Sadly for a number of years now it has looked uncared for so Street Heritage are taking it on to fully restore it to its former glory both inside and out.
We have detailed planning permission for three apartments:
Ground floor apartment which comprises 2 beds, 2 baths, lounge/kitchen, private patio and 2 car parking spaces.
Two Duplex apartments split over the first and second floors. The first one comprises 2 beds, 2 baths, cloaks, lounge and kitchen with loads of storage space under the roof. The second is the same but has 3 beds and separate kitchen. They both have 2 car parking spaces and stunning views over the southern countryside in every direction.
On the other half of the ground floor Street Heritage will be restoring and creating a ‘Victorian’ Booking Hall complete with Waiting Room, Station Masters Office, Booking Office and ‘Victorian’ toilets.
The outside will also reflect the 19th Century appearance with 'gas' lamps, cobbles, low maintenance exterior comprising of cast iron benches, artificial grass (the real look of beautiful, soft, mown green grass but without any of the pain....just enjoy the looking at) and semi-mature Manx Palms along the platform and the entrance to the apartments with the traditional white picket fencing etc.
Externally the visitors and residents will be taking a step back in time to 1909; this is what Street Heritage specialises in.
Early purchasers can have a fair amount of customisation in terms of finish and choice of fittings. Work is due to start in October 2008 and finish the end of May 2009. Prices will be announced shortly but if you are interested please register your interest at .
